Smile and the World wants to listen to you I have been in - TopicsExpress

Smile and the World wants to listen to you I have been in broadcasting since I was 19 years old and to this day one of the best pieces of advice I ever received was to smile while I spoke. When you are on the radio and you can only be heard and not seen you have to convey everything with your voice. So you want to sound pleasant and welcoming. Smiling will naturally make you sound happier. Try it and you will see. This piece of advice can be applied to ALL aspects of speaking. If you are giving a presentation and are not smiling while speaking you will not only sound as happy as you can but you will not look content. This could convey an unintended message to your audience. It could say I am simply not happy to be here. or I am really uncomfortable and nervous. or worse I am not confident I know the subject matter well enough. Such perceptions from your audience could scuttle your presentation. If you smile it gives you the appearance of contentment, comfort, and confidence. And when your content, comfortable, and confident you feel better and your posture naturally improves and you become overall more engaging. The simple act of smiling can in short time help you become a better speaker. Check out my Facebook page for continued tips or contact me directly for a coaching at [email protected]
