Smokey and the Bandit is on on CMT. Of days of yore. How many of you old farts remember the days of CB radios, from the early 70s to the late 70s? A short story long. Had a 71 Mustang in 73, a Cobra radio (only the best for me. For some unknown reason, my handle was Bacardi ( can not do that anymore). Like the Book of Faces with out the photos back then. In MEE-AM-EE, I would get on I-95 about 7AM each morning at 103rd St. Over a few years, would meet the same people on CB and talk to them. Went to lunch/dinner a few times with them. We got a new van in 1976, and my vanity plate was Bacardi and Mrs. Wicklund painted the spare tire cover with the Bacardi bat. I guess I was looking for trouble from the cops, but never happened. We started dirt biking in1974/75,I had a Yamaha 175 (bought Mrs. Wicklund a new Yamaha DT 100 for her graduation from college...man, that little sucker ran) and on Any Sunday (or Saturday ) we would have up to 20 vans/cars/trucks in a caravan going to different places in South Florida. And all talking on the CBs with our handles. The wifepersons/girlfriends were called the Beavers, no disrespect meant. It was fun. People started breaking bones, dislocations (Mrs. Wicklund dislocated her elbow...not a fun trip to the hospital.). All that happened to me was I had a Suzuki 400 run over my back and gave me a concussion. And a scar I still have. Was a lot of fun, we were young, but my friends starting selling their bikes, so I sold ours in 1978. Such is life, when one is younger and had some money. Have not used a CB in 15 years, though there is one in my van that still works. 10-4, catch you on the flip side.
