Snacks for your cravings Sometimes, after a long day at work, school or place of business, some of us come home to dinner after which we watch movies or go straight to bed. Some others get home earlier and settle in front of the couch after lunch or early dinner to watch some TV. This is the period where our system sometimes tricks us into thinking we are hungry! This makes us head to the kitchen for another serving. This isn’t usually a good idea, especially for those of us trying to stay in shape. hellofood suggests healthy snacks that should be close to you when you are watching TV so that when cravings kick in, they can be easily satisfied without taking in more calories than you should. Groundnuts: These snacks can be really tasty when fried, cooked or even roasted and are very easy to find. Groundnut is the first on the list because as small as it seems, its health benefits are numerous. Groundnuts contain B3 vitamins which are responsible for memory boost and lowering the cholesterol. Adequate consumption of these miracle nuts has also been proved to lessen the risk of colon cancer in men and women. Frozen yoghurt: Yoghurt continues to be a favourite of many because it is an excellent low-fat replacement for ice-cream and can be extremely delicious and filling. Healthy toppings such as diced apples, pineapples, watermelon etc., make this snack a treat! Wheat bread: Some of us love to have sandwiches or just plain old bread and butter when we have cravings. That is still very possible as long as you switch your favourite sliced bread to whole wheat bread, which is a much healthier option. Wheat bread, according to studies, has been proved to reduce type 2 diabetes risk by 21-30 per cent and reduces the risk of stroke by 30-36 per cent. Apples: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” we’re told, and it is true. Apples are a very healthy option with little calories and provide a source of potassium which promotes heart health. Slice up some apples and keep your cravings in check.
