Snake Wednesday! Today we are featuring our Eyelash Palm Pit Viper, Bothriechis schlegelli! You can see these snakes at the ABQ BioPark Zoo. Arboreal Pit Viper is found in Southern Mexico throughout central America and in the Northern part of South America. It gets its name from the protruding scales above its eyes that give it the appearance of having eyelashes. These scales help blend the snake in with its habitat. It has a strong hemotoxic venom used to immobilize and kill its prey which ranged from small rodents, birds, lizards and frogs. The Polychromatic can be Yellow, Green or slightly pink. #snakes #biopark #albuquerque #abq #zoo
