Snap Action for Human Rights in Sri Lanka When - Saturday, 29th of March, 11am Where - Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishops Office, 414 Rokeby Road, Subiaco Tamils from Sri Lanka compose one of the largest population of people who seek asylum in Australia. Tamils in Sri Lanka have suffered a legacy of discrimination, violence and conflict at the hands of the Sri Lankan government. In the final days of the civil war - an estimated 40 - 60 000 Tamils were killed by the government army after they bombed designated no fire zones. The human rights abuses perpetrated against Tamils in Sri Lanka is denied not only by the Sri Lankan government but also by the Australian government who pro-actively deports Tamil asylum seekers back to danger where they face torture, kidnap and death. Julie Bishop has been directly complicit in denying the genocide and ongoing human rights abuses in Sri Lanka. Join RRAN in standing with Action for Human Rights in Tamil Eelam and send a message to Julie Bishop, the Australian government and the international community that we will not tolerate these abuses being swept under the carpet.
