SnapShot Meet the coordinator of our Travel Training programs: Kymberly DeLoatche. Kymberly is the mother of two children, Sophia & Charlie (pictured here). As Charlie has some very complicated medical issues, Kymberly quickly became an expert in the EDCD waiver, EPSDT and and consumer directed services. She is one of our resident experts handling information and referral calls for parents trying to navigate the Medicaid system. In addition, Kymberly manages a grant from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments that has allowed The Arc of Northern Virginia to develop a regional travel training project to expand capacity by training transition coordinators and special education teachers in the four Northern Virginia school systems and organizations working with individuals with ID/DD. Training sessions are scheduled for August 20 & 21 and October 16 & 17 and registration is open online at thearcofnova.org. But wait, that’s not all. Next week, look for online registrations for two Wings for Autism programs at both local airports in early November The Arc of Northern Virginia, Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority, TSA and United and American Airlines will partner to provide a real life experience of coming to the airport, checking in, getting boarding passes, checking luggage, navigating through TSA, boarding and then picking up your baggage. This event will allow families of those with any intellectual or developmental disability, and especially those with sensory issues, to test out an airport experience before buying expensive tickets. For more information check out our website next week!
