So--I just watched this movie for the second time--I was one of the few people to see it in theatres---THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU--and its a movie that I frikkin LOVE! I recently saw it on a list of the worst movies of 2014, but NOTHING could be farther from the truth--whoever put it on that list is a moron! This is a movie that is a little like the movie the I am currently writing--though it is drastically different at the same time--what the movies have in common are the idea of dealing with or not dealing with the death of a parent, and I STILL am not sure if I have fully dealt emotionally with the death of my father which is now just over 4 years ago. Not a day goes by where I dont think of him--in the film I am writing, which I havent found a title for, the character is dealing with the fact that he never knew the father that has died--the father left early in the main characters life and starts a whole second family, and my main character is left to deal with the responsibilities of what to do with his body after he dies, in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU--the family must deal with their relationships, in various states of dysfunction of course, only to work on resolving their issues by being forced to confront them head on while sitting shiva! This movie really made me both laugh and cry--truly, to me-its one of the best written and least noticed films of the year! When I write, I write about the relationships first and then push those relationships into the plot--its not always the plot that comes first, but rather that plot comes out of the relationships of the people involved and their relationships with one another----look to our yet to be finished film ALL THAT YOU CANT LEAVE BEHIND for an example of that....Anyway, I do have unresolved issues, and I am brought back to a line in one of my favorite films, GRAND CANYON, written and directed by the BRILLIANT Lawrence Kasdan---and the line is from Steve Martins character---Thats part of your problem: you havent seen enough movies. All of lifes riddles are answered in the movies,--and I think that line just may be true! So--go hit up your NETFLIX, go rent it if theres still a video rental store in your area, but whatever way you have of seeing this thing--see it! THIS is the kind of movie I would and SHOULD be making! imdb/title/tt1371150/?ref_=nv_sr_1
