So 2014 has been a big year! Just as the year started, I was honoured to read that the Liverpool Echo had named me as a mover and shaker of 2014. What a great start! This year I have started new work projects, finished my work with others, and built upon existing ones. A campaign I have been involved with since January 2012 is The Oliver King Foundation, a campaign to ensure defibrillators are in all public buildings and schools following the death of 12-year-old Oliver King. This year I secured a meeting with the Secretary of State for Health, attended meetings with the Education Minister, and worked with officials from the Department for Education to develop a policy for schools on Defibrillators. This autumn the document was released to all Schools in England, highly recommending – from Government, that they purchase Defibrillators. This is a massive step for the wider campaign, and a big step closer to securing legislation. I have now taken a step back from this campaign, but I am so proud to be part of the achievements of this cause. liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/merseyside-oliver-king-foundation-secures-7262037 In April I led an appeal across Merseyside for a charity called Gift of a Wedding. They put on a free wedding, they organise and facilitate the whole day for someone who has a terminal illness and wants to marry their partner. I’m proud to say we raised over £75,000 for this charity, by the people of Merseyside donating wedding dresses and suits. My appeal also raised the profile of this charity and attracted attention from local and regional press. liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpool-brides-grooms-donate-more-7177449 In September, in a last minute before my birthday I want to be 21 forever stunt, I became a Spice Girl - Sporty Spice that is. All in aid of the James Bulger Memorial Trust. We raised money for the charity, had a ball and entertained people at the same time! liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/james-bulgers-mum-spice-girls-7776913 I stood for election to make a difference, and I am proud to have founded and led White Christmas Liverpool. It is a campaign to ensure that no-one HAS to spend Christmas alone or isolated. We bring together people of all ages and provide transport, a dinner and entertainment all free of charge. This Christmas Day we had over 500 people in St Georges Hall. It was amazing, and the feedback is brilliant. For the past 3 ½ years my identity has been Councillor Jake Morrison, from May 2015 that will be no more. In 2011 I began this journey as the youngest City Councillor in the Country, one of the youngest politicians ever in Britain. 2015 is the start of my next chapter. I’m afraid, and I’m excited – but no-one can take away the achievements over the past couple of years. I want to continue making a difference, feeling I have a purpose, and enjoying going to work. 2015 is the year I ask you to get me a job!! Keep smiling and be happy. Life is far too short to worry all of the time. Let me wish you a very happy 2015 - have no regrets, just move forward!
