So. 4 years ago today I did my first performance in a burlesque show. At Proud Cabaret City. I believe I sang Cry Me A River in a black and white stretchy-tight dress Id bought from a shop on Camden Market. I loved every second and walked around open mouthed as I was taken backstage to find the statuesque Sophia St Villier applying her nipple tassels. Tonight, 4 years on exactly, I get to perform again at Proud Cabaret City alongside the fabulous Mat Ricardo, Jolie Papillon & Mia Merode. I cant even begin to express the fun Ive had, the things Ive discovered about myself, the confidence thats grown. Burlesque, but more specifically my times at Proud Cabaret, has given me SO much. If youd have told the insecure, emo rock chick 16 year old in hoodies that Id be performing nightly in London in a corset and fishnets I would have spat out my crisps! I still get goosebumps when I watch you all. Burlesque is truly the most beautiful art form and Im HONOURED to have met such friendly people and people who are SO hard working its crazy. Paving out their careers day by day, traveling to crazy places and doing ridiculous things. All while looking good enough to eat. Thank you to Alex Proud for giving me everything, thank you to Rebecca Pout for believing in me and pushing me to compere. And massively thank you to the one and only Tadeusz Pat Zebrowski. We were new together and we built something wonderful. My partner in crime, my cabaret husband, the most wonderful human, I salute you! Lets do a corker tonight. Then lets all get messy at the cabaret birthday of the century - Hayley -Missy Fatale- Harvey where we will drink all the gin and MisterMeredith Luke & I will lead a late night cabaret sing along with those left standing. Yes life! Thank you. Gah.
