So Ali Baba a popular veteran comedian (emphasis is on veteran,so addressing single ladies may be his new hobby) went on Facebook yesterday to tell us why some single sisters are yet to find their Mr Right or Mr Right Now as the case may be. He had great points but i totally disagreed with his chauvinistic point of view. Coming from a man who is rumored to have 4 kids from 4 different women ,and a divorce in his records this advice may be hard to take but Ekenekwam gi !( apologies to my igbo friends if i got this wrong)...He insinuated that the vices of smoking, drinking like a fish and clubbing as some of those wrongs that made the particular lady not marriageable but this brings me to the question i have been pondering on since i read that piece....Are most women single because they are guilty of some vices or the other? As a lady , right from when i attained puberty my mother will always say Dont do that! your husband will not appreciate it, Dont let your husbands people say you were not trained well. i could still hear her voice drilling into my ears the dos and donts so as not to drag our familys name in the mud. Point is , right from the word go, women are trained to get correctly at least most of the expectation of the checklist a man has drawn up to fit as a good wife. But how many men make themselves marriageable to women? Do men work on their attitudes ,drop their vices and work on themselves before they get married? Hardly! . Yes the argument of its a mans world will be screamed from all sides, but i thought what is good for the gander should be expected in Somalia? What will society say is the reason why a lady who doesnt drink,smoke, club, isnt emotionally and financially needy,can cook well single? No, she doesnt have a bad attitude either nor is she ugly so dont go there. Truth is many men are not ready to commit and one hears so many excuses you start to wonder if marriage is a taboo. A friend once told me, Comfort good girls finish last, and he was correct to an extent because most of the bad girls are married so dont think its only the saints and virgin lilies that are being marched down the aisle every saturday. If one wants the best irrespective of gender, one has to work on themselves first!...some people were chaste and got married to their nightmares....others were the worst but they are enjoying their homes(sometimes not without karma knocking on their doors). On this note i give shoutouts to the single women out there who are doing the right thing in the midst of all this insanity and are still waiting for Gods time. Our own saturday will come
