So Annie Berdel you have asked.... Most of you know me as Lori. I was looking for a nom de plume to keep my OPSEC and all... You know how Preppers are! No brainer as my middle name.... and my moms middle name... is Ann so Annie was easy! Now... the task of a last name. A good friend and super dorky guy (ok...so he has one of the brightest minds in the literary world and much admired) said that I could name myself whatever I wanted... but I wanted roots... to be grounded to my past. Let me introduce you to my Grandmother.... Grace Berdel. Berdel is her middle name and she was a huge influence on my life. She was the 1st prepper I have ever met. Remember the old paper grocery bags... she had them folded over themselves and tucked in on itself to be self contained. She found a use for everything. Her old ceramic ringer washer was the one that I got my fingers stuck in. She had apple trees, cherry trees, and grape arbors that we would pick from growing up much like a kid does now in a candy shop. In her kitchen was a pie cabinet...covered in layers upon layers of paint. Mint greens, reds, yellows and lastly bright sparkling white. I stripped it down and discovered the beautiful wood underneath and now it holds one of the joys of my life, my cook books. I would love to see her reaction on borrowing her middle name, but she had a stroke my Junior year of high school... but she fought... and FOUGHT again and was with us, paralyzed on her left side, for another ten years. I love you Grandma.... Always you have been my inspiration.
