So BUSOMites, the message I promised to post days ago... As you know we have been invited to an Inter-University Musical Theatre Festival at York University. The date of this event is the 20th - 22nd of March 2015 (the week after the main show). We are allowed to take a maximum of FIFTEEN members, so in the event of more BUSOMites than that being interested, the first 15 to tell me via FACEBOOK or EMAIL – NOT in person – will go. Anyone else interested will be put on a reserve list in case someone has to drop out. That, I think is the fairest way of doing it. Due to the number of universities involved in the event, there will be a cost per person of £5 to cover security and the venues for the weekend. Accommodation will be rather 24 hour show-esque and will involve sleeping in a hall. The festival involves a series of competitions in the following categories: Male solo, female solo, Sondheim solo, large group ensemble, small group ensemble (7 people or fewer), mis-cast piece (solo or ensemble, performed by someone who wouldn’t normally get to perform that song – basically, think our last concert) and Judges’ choice song (2 weeks before the festival, the judges send each group a song to learn). We need one song for each category, so if you have a song you would like considering for a solo category, once we start organising pieces, all potential soloists can audition and one will be selected to represent us at the festival. Similarly, if anyone has any suggestions for ensemble pieces, they would be welcome. We want to go there and impress everyone with how awesome we are, so if anyone is interested in a more production side of things – musical directors, directors, choreographers, if someone has an epic idea for costumes, etc, then please let me know – actually participating in the festival in York may not be required for those involved in the production side of things, but would of course be fine too. Finally, preparations for this event will have to run alongside rehearsals for the main show, so anyone interested needs to be aware it is likely to involve giving up some of your free time outside of rehearsals. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase BUSOM and the University of Bradford, so let’s go and be fantastic.
