So Derek starts the preparation for his last treatment tomorrow. He will go to Omaha tomorrow and Tuesday for a shot. The shot will help his brain think he is really lacking in iodine. (He has been on a low iodine diet for the last week too). Then Wednesday he will get his radioactive iodine pill. Once he gets that, he will have to be away from the kids and I for 10 days. Then he will go back for a scan one week later and they will be able to see wherever the radioactive iodine went in his body, these places light up on the scan they say , basically any where cancer is left. A huge focus is seeing if the spot on his lung lights up. Then they will know if it was cancer there or not. The radioactive iodine should kill off any remaining thyroid cancer cells. So, this should be the last treatment with continuous follow up. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers it is greatly appreciated!
