So, Doctor Who had earned $1.8 billion in 2012-2013, the 50th anniversary episode grossed 2 million $ yesterday alone. For 5 decades it has been a steady platform for British actors, writers, radio dramas, videos, spin off series. It is one of the largest pop cultural phenomenons ever and as British as Buckingham Palace. Originally planned to be a family science show, it was given a complete make over by writer Terry Nation, when he created Daleks. Funny thing with the Daleks they were born in a library... Nation was unemployed and had a family to raise, so he used coffee houses and local libraries to work on the script. Does that remind you of somebody? Ah yes, yet another British pop cultural icon - JK Rowling...I am reading the news that British government plans more cuts that will shut down most of the libraries in the country. All in the name of economic growth. Now revert back to Nation who single- handily turned a family show into $1.8 billion a year show. Yes, lets close the libraries, who needs more Daleks..
