So: Doctor Who turns up on a heavily forested earth. Sun about to do a big coronal mass ejection. Dr Who does not understand what is going on. Sun exhausts firey death towards earth. Trees save the day. Trees disappear as quickly as they appeared with no explanation given. What has Dr Who done in all of this? NOTHING. Lets re-imagine this episode with all the protagonists removed. End result any different? No, except that it might have made for a marginally more enjoyable viewing experience. Main character has no function whatsoever. Its like Raiders of the Lost Ark all over again. Has the doctor really become a mere McGuffin? Will Clara Oswald be subject to a lucrative transfer to Waterloo Rd where I can safely avoid seeing her ever again? Is Terry Nation rolling in his grave? Are these questions rhetorical? Find out in the next exciting installment of Dr Whos Companion, her idiot boyfriend and a selection of unlikeable children take a long time to answer incredibly simple questions while Capaldi laments the desperate scripts hes been given.
