So, I am not allowed to show this shelter to anybody... ... ... :-p ;) This is a ZPacks Hexamid Solo Shelter, made with Aluminized Cuben Fiber. The shelter was specially made for my hike through the Mojave desert next month. CTC made a very limited run of this fabric. Huge thanks to CTC for making this fabric, and Joe at zpacks for his working with CTC to secure the fabric and make this shelter for me. Total shelter weight is 477 grams (16.82 oz), so about 70 grams (2.47 oz) heavier than the regular cf hexamid solo -- a small price to pay to have a shelter that will (hopefully) allow me to wait out the midday 100°(f) days temps and not roast to death. At least, that is the hope. It is unproven at this point and just one of the numerous products not yet on the market that I will be testing out on this hike. (and hopefully a few of them will make it to the market so all of you will have a chance to buy in 2015) I set it up yesterday in the back yard. Weather storm came through last night with 50mph wind gusts and it rained all night, and it is still raining which is why the photos are so dark. Spent the night in the shelter. It is crazy dark inside of this shelter - by far the darkest shelter I have ever been in, which I just love! And for those wondering, yes, it is rather noisy/crinkly in the wind. Thankfully I am use to sleeping with earplugs. Anyway, just wanted to share this with all of you, my fellow hikers, friends, and people willing to push the boundaries!
