So, I am really, really liking/respecting/admiring Pope Francis, despite my not being Catholic. He reminds me so much of the passion and energy and deep and abiding compassion that I read in the letters of the founders of this faith, back when we had more important things to do than deny science or wave signs at gay people or argue over a war on Christmas (whatever that means) -- you know, things like ending the practice of abandoning unwanted girl-babies on midden heaps throughout the western world (we ended that), founding sisterhoods who were entirely devoted to feeding starving people (which we did), and healing sick people. Important things that matter, things we are called to do, things that come from a calling rather than from our own inflated sense of umbrage or our fear of change. The new Pope reminds me of that sense of purpose, that demanding love, and that longing for justice. In related news, Rush Limbaugh, youre kind of a colossal jerk. Again.
