So, I am the PD of a little 100,000 fm that is kicking my opponents butt, and I am doing a little of bit of monitoring and hear their promo as to how Next Monday, we enter the electronic future! The were promoing how they would be playing CDs next Monday. I heard this Tuesday afternoon. Since we regularly did remotes at our local electronics store, I knew what I had to do. Went down there bright and early Wednesday after the morning show and told him how I would promo his store every hour for the next month if he would give me one of those new Sony Players and every rock cd he had (all 7 of them). He dug the idea and I carted the stuff back over to the station and we hooked it up, Thursday we went live with our first CD on the air, talking it up all morning, and since the local newspaper dude was a friend, my picture at the controls graced the front page of that evenings daily. Big headline about our being first. The other guys GM called me cussing up a storm, our response? If you tell me you are going to do something, I will respond. After all, its a battle every day. Another time I will tell yall about how they tried to sabotage one of our promotions, just to have that backfire on them...
