So, I back from seeing yet another screening of the immensely moving Utopia - A film by John Pilger at Sydney Opera House with the wonderful Barbara McGrady (see her work below) and, as it turns out, the Q & A afterwards featured Warren Mundine and Rosalie Kunoth-Monks (not Michael Mansell as advertised). Mundine did his usual thing of trying to shape change to suit the audience he was speaking to but simply came out with his slippery political language (with, by his standards, a mild defence of the mining industry) and a half hearted attempt to distinguish himself from the Government (Im just a humble advisor). Towards the end of the session Mundine received some well deserved stick from some First Nations members of the audience and then the moderator closed the whole thing down. Aunty Rosalie, by contrast and as usual, spoke straight from the heart and with boundless patience and dignity about the ongoing struggles of the First Peoples under the oppressive yoke of ongoing destructive Ozzifailian State policies. As always it was an immense pleasure and privilege to have a little chat with Aunty Rosalie afterwards and also to meet again with her remarkable granddaughter Amelia Kunoth-Monks. Amelia is already an impressive young woman and a dedicated activist and I predict that one day she will be as important figure as her Grandmother. Always was and Always will be Aboriginal Land!
