So I broke down and have watched some of Hardwells set. Now this - TopicsExpress

So I broke down and have watched some of Hardwells set. Now this kat is at the top of the game. Mega Headliner status. I guess the rules have changed to such a degree that I can no longer make a comparison to the way I use to watch the big dogs go after it. It use to be a very bad day at the office to ride the tails, letting track play out and mixing the lead in and lead out. It use to be considered amateur to let breakdown after breakdown drone on for the duration of a set. We use to do this thing we called progression. Where a DJ would use the next track to build energy off of the previous track. Track selection was done on the fly based on the attitude of the crowd. B-Sides and White Labels were gold, and playing the beatport top 10 was considered lazy. Having tunes nobody had heard before was the mark of a jock with skill, and to create something new within the mix was the POINT of the exercise. After half an hour watching this dude, I can see that if you take everything I just said, and do the opposite, its considered proper in todays market. This is the reason guys like me, who put in a lot of years learning how to do the things mentioned above, moved on to other things. Things that were still challenging. See, this current crap, its easy. Its easy for the crowd, its easy for the DJ, its easy for the producers. There is no substance. No heart and no soul. No Im sure if I dig around I can find the random guys out there still toiling to maintain some sibilance to what use to be but, the majority, which is what a thing is judged by, have forgotten what it means to truly interact with the digital media. Hey... Ultra Music Festival, and the rest of you money hungry corporate clowns... Youre doing it wrong.. and youre perpetuating a thing that is unsustainable. Youre putting yourself out of business. Id rather see EDM dead than have to hear it sound like this. This, has no merit. This, is simple junk food for a biomass whod rather sacrifice their dignity and self respect before applying themselves to the experience. It really is a shame.
