So I can honestly I have had the best weekend of my life. I composed a large jazz orchestral piece and this weekend, we performed and recorded it at a level that has left me in awe. I spent this last Friday and Saturday with the most amazing and talented musicians that I have had the pleasure to work with. Also, the most fantastic and professional group of music engineers I have ever met. This weekend, we as a group, completed the biggest recording project that has EVER been attempted at Berklee. Not only that, but 45 incredibly talented musicians came in, sight read a 14 minute piece, and played at a level that just completely blew my mind. Our engineering team, which consisted of 16 engineers, led by Giuseppe Taccini, were able to record this very large ensemble with the clarity and precision that I would expect to hear coming from the best studios and engineers in the world. I had the great pleasure of working with Ines Velasco on the arrangement of the piece, who has inspired me as a composer and whom I have learned so much from in the area of jazz composition. This project would not have been possible without the help of our band supervisor, Katie Hattier, who did an outstanding and massively impressive job of recruiting our band with very little time. I also want to thank our copyist, Isaac Johnston, who did a wonderful job. Our videographer, photographer, and my good friend, Derek Fountain, did a stellar job of capturing the priceless moments that we shared during the production this weekend. I also want to thank George Mason and Jano Manzali for their contributions as well. Last but not least, this project would not have been possible without Berklee!
