So, I cant review the whole album yet, since I have yet to hear it, but I can review all the songs Novembers Doom has released so far! Heartfelt: The first single released, the second track on the album. This song sums up everything I expect from Novembers Doom at this point. Haunting melodies lead into a slightly black metalish passage, and then on into the dark, OSDM inspired riffing we know and love from the band. The chores is fantastically catchy, and Paul Kuhrs ever expanding clean range is on full display. The harmonies here are some of his best, bringing Warrel Dane of Nevermore fame to mind. A melodic bridge leads (again, featuring some of Kuhrs best cleans to date) into the expectedly excellent and emotive solo from Larry Roberts (seriously, this guy has one of the best vibratos in metal, and its on full display here.) before moving back into the chores. Another verse then leads back into that haunting intro melody to finish out the song. https://youtube/watch?v=GRT41OcaAy0 The Memory Room: Ill admit it, when I heard the intro to this song, I thought it was going to be Buried part 2, and I was cool with that. However, the band instead decided to go for a heavy, harmony driven doomfest that brings to mind the downtrodden side of Alice in Chains and Candlemass. Growls are only used as accents during the chores, which in this context increases their impact. This song is all about Kuhr taking full advantage of those wonderful harmonies he writes. He also brings one of the best spoken word passages he has used in a LONG time. This leads into a wah infused solo that brings a touch of Kirk Hammet to mind. It also shows that Larry is stepping a bit outside his comfort zone as a soloist. Fantastic song that proves no matter how long you have been around, you can still try something new and maintain your identity while doing it. https://youtube/watch?v=q_FMMgV58OQ&index=2&list=PLINesDgSwsOoKCbxnsGXtTJyEqY0NP9AW Just Breath: My favorite song released thus far, and already one of my favorites from the band. Dark clean verse passages reminiscent of years gone by for the band, a heavy, catchy and damn powerful chores that is surprisingly hopeful in tone with again, fantastic vocals from paul, fantastic use of piano melody, and all climaxing in an absolutely ripping solo from Larry that culminates the hope from the chores. This solo honestly is what I imagine what one of the mighty Chuck Schuldiners solos might have sounded like if he played in RUSH. Also probably the closest well ever hear to a shred solo in Novembers Doom, showing once again that Larry is stepping out of his comfort zone on this one. https://youtube/watch?list=PLINesDgSwsOoKCbxnsGXtTJyEqY0NP9AW&v=Fm83jJ14tSQ
