So I decided to ride 4th Street in to work today. I took it starting around Winkler all the way to Chestnut. Positives: not one car passed me once I got into Old Louisville, so it was nice and peaceful. Also, the lights seem better timed for cyclists .. although I am sure that is not intentional :) ... The new pavement by UofL is so nice except for one unexpected drop under the overpass (OUCH!). Negative: All the terrible patch jobs on that road once you get past UofL and into Old Louisville. I would not be shocked if I bent my rim on the way in. It amazes me how people can carve up the streets and get away with such low standards for repairing the roads afterwards. On that note ... does anyone know when the work on 2nd and 3rd Streets will be done .. and if they are going to fix the *terrible* patch jobs they have made in the process? 2nd Street, between Kentucky and Breckenridge (I think) is the worst and I can only hope that its a temporary fix until the road gets properly re-paved. However seeing how bad 4th Street was I am starting to question if it will get fixed...
