So I feel that the last dew years have seen a lot of defeats and doll backs for the left. The Egyptian Revolution was overthrown by a military coup. The uprisings in Syria and Libya have essentially been transformed into US-backed rebel groups. The Nepalese Maoists appears to have run aground. The Occupy Movement was crushed both by its own internal contradictions (anarchists should never run anything) and state repression. There has been the lack of indictments for the pigs who killed Michael Brown and Eric Garner. We leftists seem to be good at enduring defeat upon defeat. Now we have a victory for SYRIZA in Greece, however limited and contradictory it may appear. And perhaps SYRIZAs tenure will not turn out how we hope it to be. It may turn out badly in ways we cant foresee. Or it may surprise us all and provide a spark for revolutionary ruptures elsewhere. Whatever the outcome, in this moment, we have a victory. Now youll have to excuse me while I savor it. (Doug)
