So I figured Id have a crack at that Landr automated mastering - TopicsExpress

So I figured Id have a crack at that Landr automated mastering service to see if it could do a better job than I could. On my original master channel all I had was an EQ knocking out some low end, pushing the mids a bit and a bit of the high end and as well a Limiter and Compressor just to hold it all together. I took off the Limiter and compressor pulled down the faders so it was sitting roughly -5db RMS and uploaded it. I wasnt expecting greatness but Ive gotta say I believe the pre-master sounded a lot better than what Landr could do. I lost a bit of punch off my drums and they sounded over compressed. I lost the width through the mids but also gained this fluffy washed out highs which I just despised. It seemed like really all it did was compress the low end to shit, boost it with a limiter and then spread out the tops quite a bit. Personally Im not terribly impressed but hey thats just my opinion. What I learned is something Ive known for quite some time... There is no substitute for practise and a good skill set. My experience may differ to yours but if you havent already and you want a bit more punch out of your tracks give it a go you might end up with a nicer sound than what you had or you might end up with something unplayable like I did (maybe my standards are fairly high?) either way it wont hurt to give it ago but remember Practise makes perfect.
