So I finally bit the bullet and installed Microsoft Office on my MacBook - an application that I havent seriously used in many years now. The main reason for doing this is that so many clients send me Powerpoint slides with embedded .WMV videos these days and Google Docs just gives up in despair when trying to import them. So imagine my surprise when after PAYING for MS Office for Mac so I can read MS Powerpoint slides containing MICROSOFT format videos to find that it - DOES NOT WORK. To make it work Microsoft recommends I PAY AGAIN for some third-party software that will allow the MacBook to read their files. I thought nothing to do with Microsoft and Apple could amaze me further, but clearly I thought too soon. So yeah, bottom line: its the 21st century. If something isnt clearly cross-platform in all respects its not worthy of being called professional or business-ready or a standard. That most certainly now includes Microsoft Office and Windows Media files.
