So I get asked on occasion why I havent pursued advancement within the fire service. The answer I have is somewhat complicated but 100% accurate. I have at times, but I have chosen to put my family first, working for 3 departments so my wife can be home with our girls. I have made decisions I knew would exclude me from consideration, not aggressively pursuing post education due to finances and time being one of them. I will make one thing very clear though, there is only one thing I LOVE more then my career, my family. I would sacrifice any position for their safety, security and happiness. I love my job but this life is not about me, its about them. I like to think I am very good at what I do and maybe that door will open in the future, until then I will continue to work my butt off for the ones I love.
