So I get that sometimes Spring is a good excuse for a new bike or sporting equipment and why not lump that into Easter but once upon a time Christmas only included a stocking or an orange or a small toy. Look at what it has become? I called my nana today and asked her what she use to get for Easter. She talked at length and could describe the special Easter egg her dad always got her from Talbots. She could still remember the pink writing, the yellow chicks and the little white flowers on it. What kind of memories are we making for our children and what kind of expectations have we placed on ourselves to create these memories. Why do I feel the pressure to get my child a new bike when a good used bike would make her just as happy. We are creating one happy moment and paying for it later. Our planet has become a credit card we are racking up and the interest is killing us. And the worst part is I feel like such a hypocrite. Part of the problem and wishing I could be part of the solution but its so easy to cave to the pressure of attempting to keep up appearances. On that note...I am the look out for two used kids bikes and have two small ones here to give away. Rant over...
