So, I go over to Davis at lunch to pick up some items they dont have anywhere except at Whole Foods, including their house brand peanut butter, which I love. They have organic canned sweet potato and butternut squash on sale at a killer price, so I get a couple cases. And some other stuff, for about three-quarters of a grocery cart full. What follows is a textbook case of why Davis gets on my nerves: 1) Woman eyes my cart, asks what Im going to do with the canned vegetables. I use a lot of it when I make food for my dogs, I said, truthfully. She has a cart full of organic whoop-de-whoop for her two pre-school children, one of whom is pulling cans off the shelves. Well, she says, I never heard of anyone shopping at WF for a DOG! First, they have an aisle of pet food, so obviously people do (actually, their pet food is crap kibble with a fancy label, no thanks). Second, if I want your opinion, organic baby-mom, Id have asked for it. It was on sale, I say, turning away so to end the discussion. 2) Its lunchtime, so most people are getting lunch.Two-three items each. I have a full-ish cart, and I wave three of them ahead of me at the checkout line. WF then opens up the 15 items or less line, and the lunch folks go there. I start being checked out. Woman gets behind me in line with maybe 10 items. Good thing Im retired, she says to me, because its going to be a while before I get to the checker. I point out that the 15-or-less lane is open. But theres a LINE there! she says. First, its not a convenience store. People do shop for a cartful of groceries. Second, Im NOT retired. Lunch is the time I have to shop. Third, WTF Davis? WTF?
