So I got to help the blind prof today. He was very cool. Life loving and embracing and charismatic as well, but obviously and probably totally blind. The methods he developed to visualize chemistry focus on detecting changes in ambient light, sound, and other variations, which incidentally are useful not just to blind students and researchers, but to all students and researchers, since the method can detect small changes that the naked eye cannot in many cases. I asked him whether hes tested it on light sensitive reactions and other situations and he said he did not yet and if I wanted to help him with that, we could talk. Dont know if Ill end up helping him, but I sure was inspired by him. Its interesting that for him, reason consists of fewer sense yet he is able to remember more than ordinary people can and store it and integrate it very quickly. A slightly higher crow epistemology. And he also carried a little laptop which only had a keyboard and with letters and a screen that looked like braille, and he constantly talked to other profs, wrote their names and info and recognized them from a distance simply by hearing their voice. What was amazing too was when we walked from his hotel to the conference, he seemed to know the area much better than me, he pointed to constructions, to restaurants, said one way was shorter (fewer steps) and less hectic than another, pretty amazing. Really enjoy helping him around today.
