So. I got to see the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London. Current crown dates to only 1937. Why? Because the previous crown got broken. I had images of George V suddenly appearing on his head at breakfast someone passed him some Imperial margarine for his biscuits or scones. Suddenly the trumpets blare, the king is startled and the bejeweled crown tumbles from his head. But...no. quite the reverse I am assured. He wore it for coronation and to open Parliament each year. After he died, well meaning some court flunky placed it atop his casket. It fell off, breaking on the floor. See for yourself below.
