So, I guess it was just a matter of time until I got nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge - thanks to Derek Fung. Although I have donated both time and money to ALS research in the past, this time around I decided to do some research before jumping on the bandwagon. I was extremely disappointed to find out that ALS is one of the few organizations that choose to imprison, brutally and mercilessly torture, and murder animals for research purposes. This is incredibly saddening to me since there are many other organizations fighting for different cures which have abandoned this inhumane and outdated form of research. Until ALS stops causing unnecessary harm to animals, my money, time and energy will be directed toward organizations who choose humane research methods. Please understand, I am not knocking the spirit of this campaign, I know all the people who have donated mean well and are genuinely interested in helping others. MY CHALLENGE TO EVERYONE is to research the companies and organizations you choose to support with your time and money and make sure they align with what you believe to be moral and ethical. Lastly, if you have any doubt about the morality of using animals for testing or research, the attached video might help.
