So, I had my physicians examination for SSDI today. I still feel odd about it, but I guess Im entitled, though that word has become anathema. I think the doctors real name was Torquemada. He didnt seem to have looked at my paperwork at all, and keep trying to twist and move me in ways my body doesnt move. Its a good thing I have my x-rays on my phone, to show him no, there ISNT much lateral bending in a spine with a titanium cage! His response: That certainly is a long scar. He kept wanting me to lean backward more . . . till I fell backward, luckily on to the exam bed. He was surprised, despite the known spinal injury, to find I have no knee reflexes. When he asked me to bend over and touch my toes, he tried to push me further . . . I swear I wanted to turn around and hit him. I said Doctor, L2-S1 are fixed in position. This is as good as it gets! He tried to get me to walk on my toes. (I cant) He wanted me to walk one foot in front of the other, which I specifically SAID I couldnt do in the questionnaire I sent in. He asked what other issues I had, and I said Doctor, did you even LOOK at the questionnaire I sent it, in which I went into detail about the diverticulitis and IBS? Why dont you just tell me about it? So I did. In lengthy, graphic and colorful detail. When he asked about the groin (not a hernia) problem, I showed him the VERY colorful images of that region I took when things blew up. Frankly, the assistant who took notes, my BP, checked my eyesight, height and weight actually seemed to pay more attention. May back hurts worse that a nasty back workout at the gym, and he asked why I didnt take NSAIDS, to which I replied, Because I dont want to spend another week in the hospital! Why would that happen? He asked. Um, because the irritation of the bowel could trigger another diverticular hemorrhage? Is this something you were told by your doctor? (I wanted to say No, sir, I pulled it out of my ass) I responded -- Yes: my primary doctor, my internist and the proctologist BAH! I just hope this goes through so I can get on with things. Its no wonder this man isnt in private practice.
