So I had something of a revelation earlier I thought Id share and get some opinions on. As a gamer and an (increasingly) alienated fan of the Aliens franchise, it occurs that very few video games that have been released really seem to do the series any justice. Considering the action-packed film directed by James Cameron, action-adventure or first-person shooter seemed appropriate genres but theyve been done to death. How about taking a page from the Ridley Scott-led original and making a tense, atmospheric survival horror game that leans very heavily on the latter? Alone in the dark, with monsters who you cant see until theyre about to rip your spine out and turn you into a kebab with it, and you, a tiny squishy human creature with next to no defense against the beasties, who must somehow survive and escape. Handled correctly (Hands off, Capcom, Resident Evil isnt survival horror, its mow down zombies), this could make for excellent pant-shitting fun. Anyway, thoughts on an Alien survival horror that doesnt involve being a well-equipped military person with training and guns, one where the xenomorphs are a credible threat instead of bullet fodder?
