So...I *had* to call my friend (and former drummer) Wayne on my way to work the other night. Why? Because we had always bonded over an unhealthy love for Van Halen. However, while listening back to my personal favorite Sammy-era CD (F.U.C.K.), it occurred to me, that the band was not incapable of recording a steaming pile of shit (insert VHIII reference here). Now, as easy as it is to point to the Gary record, I came to realize, that some of their other material, was equally offensive to the ears. It was one particular song, that brought me to this point; Pleasure Dome. Im not even going to link to it. Because, after listening to it the other night, Im considering contacting an attorney, to serve the band, and demand reparations, for wasting 6:58 of my life. Honestly...other than Alex (who is the bands actual special sauce, not Eddie) drum performance, the song is disjointed, meandering, and cacophonous. In hindsight, we shouldve seen the inevitable split coming. It was a harbinger of the tripe to follow. Thankfully, Balance was fairly decent, but had a few stinkers embedded as well (Feelin anyone?). The point, is this: No band is perfect. Never will be. Music is subjective. Enjoy what you love, and discard the rest. Dont waste time on things that dont make you happy. ...and Pleasure Dome, sucks out loud.
