So, I have a headache. I know Ive told this story before, but someone asked Mary Todd Lincoln, (who had severe migraines) Do you have a headache today? She said she did and got a sympathetic response. Then MTL said, Oh, I have a headache, not THE headache. The one I have is pretty darned close to THE headache and inching closer by the hour - but, you know what else I have: a house and its clean (as clean as a house of mine will ever be), a car that my own true loves keeps clean and full of gas, money for books and whatever else I need. Yesterday I saw my son, lived with my own true love and talked to my brother. Ive sent notes this week to the tiny, precious little people in my life. Im thinking about starting (earlier than ever before) to decorate for Christmas. I have the most amazing friends in the world. Euripides said, Woman is the natural ally of woman. The women in my life are awesome - and many are the age of my son and some are the age my mother would have been and some are my age - true friendship has no age boundary. I have uncles and aunts and cousins who are so marvelous and caring and I can call and talk to them about anything. I think, really, I must be the luckiest woman in the world. I read a long time ago that the older a woman gets, the more she counts her blessings quietly to herself. I do that. A silly, silly thing but yesterday I got to whisper something to my son. He had to bend way over to listen. He is a foot taller than I am. It was the best moment in the world. When the headache is better, there are books to read - there are things to be shared with people I know and love - and with strangers. I talk to everybody in line everywhere I go and people are almost always just so nice. Just wanted to say all this. P.S. The University of Kentucky Mens basketball team is #1 in the country - we cant dismiss that as it is a joyful thing. Remember, nothing ugly on my page about any team in North Carolina. Some of the people I love most are Carolina fans and Duke fans and Wake fans and NC State fans. But, of course, anything bad you have to say about Kansas basketball is fine with me.
