So I have a neat little story I want to share with you .... Today Ethan & I were super busy - but we did make sure we had time to go to Shoops for lunch. As we were walking up three teenage guys were coming from the other side of the building. Respectable enough looking kids - one had a Marquette shirt on. They were ahead of us and one of them told his friends to hang on, backed up and held both of the doors open for us. (My hands were full - but I am a mom - they are never THAT full lol) When we sat down Ethan says He did the Ladies first!!! Nobody does that except on TV! ...... This made me have a very bittersweet moment. I was saddened by the fact that this is what my 5 year old boy considers out of the ordinary - but also very proud of the young man who was making his mother proud. Our table wasnt far from the group of guys & I have to tell you - they werent loud. They didnt curse, or talk about vulgar things. They were polite to their waitress, who was also our waitress, and deserved to be treated well, she was a doll. I asked her for the young mans bill when she brought ours. In exchange I gave her a note saying something along the lines of Thank you for setting a good example for my son. Stay classy and you will go far. Good manners deserve acknowledgement NOT an exact quote at all, I think I wrote a hashtag in there too lol. You get the idea. They stopped on the way out and said thank you, the kid in the marquette shirt said you didnt have to do that I replied You didnt have to stop and hold the door for us either. My hope is that he tells his friends. These kids restored my faith in the next generation a bit. To be able to sit and have lunch with my kid without overhearing someone dropping the f bomb or about raging out all weekend was a joy. For Ethan - who is 5 and basically looks up to every teenage boy - to see him take the time out & be polite and be thanked and rewarded for it was worth every penny. With that said, man can teenage boys eat!!!! LOL His bill was 3 cents more than Ethan & I combined! LOL
