So I have been asked constantly about a situation that took place yesterday while two of my officers were on an assist EMS call. Officer Sergio Guzman was in inadvertently caught up in a taser wire while in a scuffle with a subject in a confined space. While I cannot release many details, during the incident Officer Guzman had a seizure. He was released from Wake Med and must follow up with a neurologist before he is able to drive. I would like to thank the quick actions that were taken by the Selma EMS crew aboard EMS 31, and Selma FD first responders, who were already on scene. Johnston County EMS 13 whose crew assisted and transported Officer Guzman to Wake. The Johnston County Sheriffs Office deputies and Smithfield Police officers who responded quickly and fearlessly. Also to our dispatchers, who hear calls for help or assistance and being unable to flee the confined space of the center to do so themselves, must pray that help gets there in time. I will most likely leave someone out but it will be okay. Almighty God knows who all was involved and the actions you took. God bless you all and enjoy your weekend.
