So I have been feeling overwhelmed as of late. So much so that I have put aside many things that at the moment seem draining. I have not been so busy but my son in law, Gavin Hill, has been suffering from a sudden onset of renal failure. They have finally diagnosed with some surety Goodpastures Disease and he is beginning to feel better than previously. He is on dialysis and if nothing changes will eventually benefit from a kidney transplant. For so long it did not appear to have a discernible etiology and everyone was unsure. He has gotten great care and the doctors in Hawaii have been amazing. They have contacted many other experts in the field from many institutions and because of a friend who went to medical school with me I talked to the transplant team at UCSF. I mention all of this not to lament my station in life. I feel it has been a great blessing for our family. Certainly our faith and prayers have strengthened. I read that the awful tragedy of life is not suffering but suffering in vain. Or worse, it is suffering that could have been the elixir of nobility, transforming us into a godliness beyond description which, instead, has become the poison of bitterness and alienation. My beautiful daughter and handsome son in law have shown great courage throughout this difficult time and I feel their love for each other has grown so much. My love for my son in law, especially after my visit, and my respect for him as a man has immensely increased. This tribulation has made them so strong, not without pain, and I feel blessed for that. Both of my older daughters in difficult times have shown a resiliency and strength that I did not know that they had and doubt that I have. So, if I have been slow to answer your messages or texts or calls, I apologize as I have been preoccupied and have felt overwhelmed. But I thank everyone for their support and I am feeling so blessed for the children Heavenly Father entrusted to our family. And I also credit their amazing mother, Yvonne Ybarra Rhoades, who has done such a great job raising them as I have been so busy throughout my life. I have been truly blessed.
