So I have swollen legs and feet. Dont feel sorry for me. Im forced to sit and watch the clouds pass. Quite the show today. It started with a basic blue canvas and a moderate breeze. The breeze picked up and thin strands of cotton mesh flowed into view. Later, the strands pulled themselves together into puff balls that looked as if theyd been the playthings of bored kittens, raggedy around the edges, holey in the middle. Lots of ravens flew in and out of view. Back east, I watched swallows dance above the stoney fields of New England. These Colorado avians werent as graceful, but they were certainly acrobatic. And determined. They didnt stop their aerial stunting even when a hawk passed higher up. By now, the clouds were more or less of a piece. To the east, behind the mountains, the tops of thunderheads were lit by the westering sun. Storms on the plains tonight. While I was distracted by those distant banks, the clouds overhead became mottled lumps, ranging from dirty white to greyish blue. Mini-breasts of a sullen Mother Nature. Tornado clouds when they breach the mountain barrier. Thunder made its presence felt. Far away, then closer. Reverberations shook the mountains. Lightning flashed. Small bolts, followed by scary ones. Bailey deserted me. The breeze became a mini-gale and the Denver paper joined the ravens. Pat rushed out with the walker but the rain beat her. We were drenched and laughing so hard we couldnt get the thing unfolded. Colorado doesnt care if youre not feeling well. Youre going to have a memorable time. Even if youre drowned in the process.
