So I havent posted much about this immigration mess because the last mention I made about it caused some these comments... https://facebook/jhoran81/posts/10152905116613281 Here are my thoughts after a busy few days of being able to read and think and to pray a bit about the whole concept. 1. What is WRONG with us these days that we go around trolling the profiles of people we barely know, ready to blast their opinions or to blast own opinions in their face unsolicited? Are we harboring that much frustration? Are we harboring that much pride and arrogance? Im not sure, except I do know this, we are not acting in LOVE and GRACE. Meaningful debate that changes people and changes nations only happens when it is entered into WILLINGLY by both parties. It does not occur when one person begins shouting at another even if it is through a computer screen. 2. Ive been a HORRIBLE SINNER in this. I love voicing my opinions, too much. I thought maybe that had gotten better over this past year but in reality it hasnt. I can tell you that, because I still WANT TO DO IT! I still desire to pop off with my thoughts and opinions when thats not what we need... at least not in the way I tend to do it. So I am vowing to make a fundamental change to my tone and approach from here out. I encourage ANYONE who is willing to commit to joining me. 3. I have read some good thoughts on all sides of this immigration/executive action debate but Im going to leave two thoughts hanging out that I think deserve some more attention than they are receiving from either side: a. No matter how emotionally OR spiritually tugging an issue may be on our hearts, it is a dangerous road to excuse the rule of law for the sake of those emotional or spiritual feelings. We can work to change the law, the better it, to make sure it is applied fairly and justly but to excuse the breaking of any law because it is un-compassionate is inviting the future breaking of laws based on similar grounds. b. No matter whether youre a Republican or Democrat, I believe we need to be concerned about the growing power of the Executive. This isnt a good thing for either side of the political aisle. The de-valuing of our Legislative Branch and the political process is dangerous and has been in motion for longer than Obama has been in office. One side cant blame the other, both have created the monster-Presidency we now see unfolding and even IF a Republican occupies that office next it wont change that unsettling power deficit.... UNLESS we begin to act to encourage the Judiciary and Legislative Branches to hem the Executive back in. Finally, and I know this is a LONG, WAY TOO LONG POST... we have to get better at this! My cousin Coby Cagle is a great influence on me. We disagree alot! But we also, talk ALOT! We discuss and we push each other to be better in our thoughts and beliefs. Im thankful for him and for those of you who engage with me in healthy ways.
