So, I just finished telling Jeff this story about how I came to love Mary. My story about (very soon after beginning my conversion) reading a Maryknoll prayer written by a (then) very pregnant woman who fled war-torn El Salvador by swimming across a river at night under gunfire and delivered her premature baby that same night in a cave across the border in Honduras. She wrote that she thought of Mary fleeing to Egypt with the infant Christ the entire time, and that Mary and her strength and courage was what brought her through her own ordeal. I learned a pretty profound lesson in humility and true suffering that day, and also learned to embrace that the mother of God is my mother also, and, along with God and Christ, that she would carry me through anything. I thank God for my faith every day, but not often enough.
