So I just got home from a VERY fun and great night of theatre after FINALLY getting to see Playhouse on the Squares YOU CANT TAKE IT WITH YOU..top to bottom after seeing bits and pieces here and there! WOW! GREAT performances from some folks Ive watched and learned from throughout the years. Really enjoyed myself. MEMORABLE performances all the way around...but have to say..Laurie McCoy was truly the glue that kept that show together! Her wit and timing and her AMAZING appeal made Penny Sycamoure a JOY and a HOOT to watch. Dont get me wrong, there was not a weak link in the group! Rob DeCroix had a tiny but powerful role that really took the stage and was believable. Judy Burnette just really drove the comedy home as Rheba and her exchanges with Barry Weiss was worth the price of admission! The show-stopping moment for me was when Barry tackled Jim Hepworth in the middle of the stage and then hopped up and danced around like Mohammad Ali. Jim then stood up and had comic bit after comic bit with broken glasses. Kim Shafer truly embodied Mrs. Kirby with every body twitch and facial expression and air of indignation...was so funny and memorable. Matthew T. Dearing played one HECK of a xylophone!!! WOW! I think every production Ive ever seen either used recordings or the guy made no attempt to play real tunes...LOL. Alexia Dawn Chigges was radiant and silly and just a JOY. Rich McCoy is the perfect Paul...easygoing and you just expected him to appear pantless at ANY moment. Felicia Coulter was her usual stunning self. AL Scheider played Donald so affectionately that you knew IMMEDIATELY why he was a member of the family and then really switched it up to be GI Man. Sam Brown set the tone of being the shady and typical GOVERNMENT malarkey-spewing guy and was strong in all his entrances. And although Roy Pyas and Michelle Dearing are the sweethearts of the piece, they dont have much of the antics and can sometimes become boring...but not these two...you really rooted for them and just smiled whenever they appeared. Karla Joelle Butcher rose to the occasion and played Gay Wellington with drunken aplomb AND abandon. AND NOBODY...NOBODY plays sweet and quiet and funny like Michale Coulter! Jim Nevins proved once again why hes our areas EVERYMAN. His important speeches were so deftly done and heartwarming. I hope Im not missing anyone. Joe Michael Jackson should be proud and happy with this MOTLEY CREW of zany and wonderful actors! Debi Iams costumes were gorgeous and so appropriate and Georgia Dirksens touch was a great addition. If you didnt get to see this and dont have tickets yet for tomorrow....GET THERE EARLY!!! ALMOST SOLD OUT!!!!
