So, I just learned that the kids and teens that they are currently looking for homes for in Texas may be placed in my little home town in Michigan. I think its would be such a wonderful chance for cultural exchange for such a small community!! For example, I met a very beautiful old woman from Cuba yesterday. She was so warm, so friendly and so kind. She was happy I was taking the kittens, as she lived next door to the vacant home where we found them. She had to be in her 70s or 80s. Her husband brought us soda and it tasted familiar, like something I had had in Honduras, but maybe because it was made from sugar cane. It was a wonderful interaction, and when I explained to her that the reason my Spanish sounded strange to her, was because I lived in Brasil, and my Portuguese accent bleeds over, she simply asked if I knew a woman from her church. Then she invited the boys and I in for coffee and a snack. Such sweet people, I just wanted to hug her and sit and listen to her stories for a spell. CULTURE is so cool, if you can give it a chance!
