So I just received this in my inbox from a teacher in one of my summer 3-day PBL workshops: My kids have absolutely LOVED their PBL mini golf course. We finally took it from paper to real life today and they couldnt stop talking about it. They have been disappointed on days when we dont have time to work on it and Ive even heard When is math? I cant wait for math today. They are constantly asking questions all day long from the minute they walk in the door to the minute they walk out. I have to tell them we will talk about it tomorrow or remind them we have other things to do. We have been able to finish this project during our regular math time with the exception of 3-4 days so that has made it much easier to make the transition to PBL because I dont feel like its taking away from other things. We have been doing crazy math skills (huge area/perimeter problems, square roots, multi-digit multiplication) and during the time I give hints the room is dead silent (26 kids). Im giving our chapter test Friday just to have the data to show we still were learning the same concepts just without our workbooks (We still used our reference books - A LOT!) I just wanted to say thank you for all your help and reassurance in starting this journey with PBL. I feel that after your training our staff has been excited about this new journey and we are working towards a common goal! I will share pictures and videos after we finish up tomorrow! My favorite comment so far is that we are not learning like the same blah blah blah - this is actually fun!
