So I know I am back in a classroom in the Fall, in a high school. - TopicsExpress

So I know I am back in a classroom in the Fall, in a high school. I know I will be teaching AP government and some classes related STEM. So now I am going through the accumulated detritus from almost two decades of teaching throwing out what I will not need. THere is tons of middle school stuff, but with the exception of the brief stint this past school year i have not in been in a middle school since 2002. There is some very dated stuff on US or World history, neither of which I will be teaching (although the really good stuff I will hold). Even a lot of my AP Gov stuff will not be relevant because it is tied to a textbook we will not be using, and besides, I have all of that stuff on my computer if I need it. What surprised me was to discover that I had ALL of my materials from my MAT at Hopkins, 1994-96. I also had a ton of professional materials on education, most of which are now well out of date. It was interesting to reread some of my papers from the MAT - in fact, my educational philosophy was already pretty well formed, and has not changed all that much in the interim. And I found a paper from 1994 in which I predicted with eery accuracy what the continuing emphasis on testing was likely to mean. Some of those papers I will hang on to. And now that my break is over, back to cleaning out the detritus. So far the equivalent of four milk cartons have gone, need to do at least as much more before I leave the task for the day - trash pickup is tomorrow.
