So I left the Church and swore that I would never return. In the - TopicsExpress

So I left the Church and swore that I would never return. In the midst of my justifiable rage, I stopped praying. After spending years of my life devoted to the Church’s teachings, (I even taught Sunday school for the pre-school kids at the Church I grew up at), the greatest lesson I ever learned from the Church was that those who stood at the pulpit and those who claimed to be people of Christ, were merely humans grappling with their own darkness. I wanted to share this piece with all of you because lately a lot of folks have mentioned to me that they had an impression of me that is rather inaccurate. While I am still unpacking my own spirituality, I thought it was important to share a part of my identity that I usually shy away from speaking about in public. Special thanks to Maria Da Silva-Mahtani who inspired me to write this piece and for always embracing me even when others around me did not. You are a might woman of faith and I am so glad to have you in my life. I also wanted to thank Anthony Menzel-- who has been one of my greatest spiritual teachers, even though we dont agree on every thing, we choose to love one another regardless of our differences. You have shown me the power of unconditional love and for that I am forever thankful for you. #SuperSoulSunday #Faith #Spirituality #Gay #God #Universe #Freedom #FabSpeak #Writing #Blog #Church
