So, I love every one of my horses.....but Maya is my soulmate. I wanted to share how she came into my life. When I was in my early 20s I had a beautiful OTTB named Truck. I wanted to do three day eventing and we worked so hard preparing for our goal. Then one morning I went to feed him.....and no Truck. Someone had come in the middle of the night, cut the fence and stolen him. I was literally heartbroken and it still haunts me to this day. This was before the days of FB or NetPosse, but I went to sales, auctions....every place you can think of. I never found him. I didnt want another horse. Then, about five years ago I decided it was time. I started my search, looking for a TB gelding. One day, I saw an ad for a gentle giant with no pic attached. I was curious and after finding out she was only about 20 min away made an appointment to go and look at her. The very first moment I saw her, I knew she had to be mine. She was so beautiful, standing there. It was a windy night and her mane was blowing and all of a sudden, she tossed her head, stamped her foot and threw her feed bucket up in the air. It was hilarious. It was as if she were saying....Ive shown you my gorgeous self, posed for you, but it is FEED TIME and you can leave now. (She still has that attitude to this day). :) It turns out her previous owner bought her to use as a jousting horse and she refused to have anything to do with it. No swords for my girl. She planted her feet and stood there!! Anyway, thats how she and I became partners. And how my search for a TB gelding resulted in a wonderful friendship with a Shire mare! Every time I see her, Im still filled with joy. I treasure every moment I have with her, because I know how quickly they can be gone. I still have Trucks halter and I know he will be the first to greet my babies when the time comes for them to cross the rainbow bridge.
