So, I love video games. Im sure this comes as a surprise to absolutely no one. However, Ive recently been really considering what kind of role Christians need to play in the video game world. It used to be that video games were limited in how they could really engage a persons intellect. Video games never used to have plots, let alone speak on moral and spiritual issues. But now as technology gets more advanced, so has the video game medium as an art form. My question is this: how can Christians use this new art form to spread the Gospel? Polygon recently posted a couple articles on Christian games and developers. Needless to say, Christian video games havent really taken off. Most of them are quite terrible, in fact. The question has arisen, as it did in music when I was in a band, Do we make Christian games? Or do we as Christians make non-Christian games? Do we need more games with Christian themes and Gospel centered messages? Or do we just need more great Christian video game developers? Or both? Do we need more Christians in video game journalism? All of the above? As a Christian gamer, I really want to try and find ways to use this new medium I love to further Gods kingdom. Any feedback from my fellow believers on this?
