So I missed a day in treasuring my mentors/contemporary - TopicsExpress

So I missed a day in treasuring my mentors/contemporary inspirations and am hopping on the ball now. I want to start it off with.. Arthur Roberg Arthur was the first time an artist had come to me and said I would like to help you improve. We met at CONduit (I met a lot of people at conduit), and he was kind enough to sit down and go through my art to show me what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. I was very young. Before I met him I had a career doing odd jobs (murals on walls, etc) in art but being stable was just not happening. There was no .. great art community where I had lived before and I had only recently moved to Utah so was not connected with the community here. Arthur was my first real contact with any of the artists here, and he made a profound impression on me by simply opening his arms and saying Let me help. Its something I try to incorporate in how I treat my fellow artists every day. It was wonderful. I spent many days over at his house, working on my human anatomy over and over again. I could see improvement coming in leaps and bounds, but beyond that, I was learning first hand how important it was to be generous and kind, as a person. As part of who you *are*. Im basing a lot of what I learned from him about knowing oneself and staying true to yourself in my therapy lessons and work on improving myself these days. Sometimes you slip, sometimes you fall, but you keep going and you keep doing incredible things, even when life seems at its darkest. Hes taught me that as well, even if he doesnt realize it. This is probably my favorite of his acrylic pieces: myrddyn.deviantart/art/Oriental-Silk-39841268 though his sculptures win my heart every single time. Hes a jack of all trades, so Ill link his site here: knotworks.net/
